Dirt Devil Reaction

Posted in Shopping, Technology

Yesterday we braved the mall to buy a new vacuum. Our second-hand ancient vacuum was just not cutting it. Although we spent a great deal of time drooling over the Dyson, we settled on the Dirt Devil Reaction Dual Cyclonic.

The vacuum features similar dual cyclonic action as the Dyson, to provide greater suction on a more constant basis. It also has tools that work on carpet, laminate and tile, which was a requirement.

I think it’s a pretty vacuum, as far as they go, and Ianiv (the vacuumer) says it did a good job. Yay!

Christmas Tree

Christmas Tree

Not the best picture, but this is our tree. It’s the largest tree I’ve ever had – 7 feet! – and I managed to cram it into the car and close the trunk, if you can believe it.

Atop the tree is my new tree topper, which I really need to zoom in on. It’s a star that mimics a snowflake. Next year I’ll place the tree nearer a wall so the topper is more visible, but it’s quite nice. And I hope to make a tree skirt sometime with my new sewing machine. Domestic loveliness :)

Merry Christmas and I hope everyone had a great day!

Gingerbread House

Yummy! Thanks Tamara for the kit, it’s as close to baking as I got this Christmas ;)

Why do cats always look evil when you photograph them yawning?

Changed lyrics pet peeve

Posted in Music

Ok, new pet peeve here. Changing words in the lyrics of Christmas songs.

For example, the Dean Martin version of "I’ll be home for Christmas" he replaces this line:

"I’ll be home for Christmas, you can count on me"

"I’ll be home for Christmas, you can plan on me"

All moved in

Posted in Arieanna & Ianiv

The weekend of moving is finally over, and now comes the weeks of unpacking, painting and repairing! w00t!

The move went really well. On Saturday, we packed up some breakables and came over with Ianiv’s mom. Took us forever to get here because half or North Vancouver has no power, and the lights all became 4-way.

Found the new house a little less clean than desired, so started up a cleaning frenzy in the kitchen, the most important room in the house ;) Went through a whole container of Lysol wipes and put parts of the fridge through the dishwasher. Tried to hold my nose while bleaching the rest of it. But now it’s a beauty. Shined up all nice and lovely (it’s black and stainless steel and so big).

Cleaned all the cupboards and drawers and counters and srubbed everything until it was new again. Except the stove. That damn thing is just hopeless. I am avoiding cleaning it so we can just plop a new one in right away.

Did I say how much I love my new kitchen? It’s by far my favorite room in the house, although I love the new house too.

Everything fit into the rooms much better than I expected. I am happy. I have my desk overlooking the deck in the loft, and am just as cozy as pie. The master bedroom is glorious. The closet space? OMG! I was able to fit in all my clothes!! (Granted, they are still stacked 3 deep, but at least I can see them now!). We might not need to buy new dressers right away either. There are enough shelves in the closet that we might just be able to pass with one in the master. We have the othe 2 in the guest and in the loft.

The cats. Well, totally different reactions from each. Nala has been there and done that. She definitely pulled her check-every-nook-and-cranny search, but she was far more adventurous. I let them out of the bathroom after the movers left and it wasn’t long before she made her way downstairs. And OMG, she is talking again! She has not made this much noise since I moved her to the Kitsilano apartment. I really think she likes it here. She roams around and meows like crazy, and even flopped on the carpet to have her tummy rubbed. A big deal. She is not eating much, but she’s just dandy.

Now, Guinness. Well, that’s another story. He may be a boy, but he’s a very scaredy cat. Always has been, a result of some trauma as a kitten (he was a rescued cat). Anyway, he wouldn’t leave his cage, so we took off the top. Then he hid behind the toilet for a few hours. Got hungry, but wouldn’t eat. Eventually we transferred him to the bedroom, where he hid under the side table and in the closet.

During the night, both cats did some exploring and are a bit more adjusted today. Guinness is sleeping on the bed and I was able to hand feed him some food. Nala is just roaming like a happy little adventuress.

We are very happy right now. We have such a huge list to buy today, including my darn Christmas tree, and have no couch in the livingroom yet (we want a new one, so the existing one is in my office. Thank goodness for movers), but it’s a great adventure indeed. And many thanks to Gloria and Eugene for all their help yesterday moving in!

Can’t wait to share pictures and video!

Now, back to work… Hopefully those servers come back up soon!

I have been tagged!

Posted in Arieanna & Ianiv, Facts

Sheila, one of my fabulous bloggers in b5, is the first to tag me, and since all of the b5 sites are currently down and I’m just sitting here, I’ll follow the rules and play:

The rules:

  1. Post a blog with your six weird habits/ things as well as the rules/ instructions;
  2. Add to your blog a list of your six victims to be tagged;
  3. Leave a comment for your six victims that says "You are tagged! Read my blog" (but you cannot tag the person who tagged you).

Six weird things you don’t know about me:

  1. I hate it when people touch my nose. Ianiv does it to bug me. Drives me bonkers.
  2. I won’t sing Happy Birthday. When I was in high school, I worked at McDonald’s and was the "party girl" for about 2 years, every weekend, hosting birthday parties up to 3 times a day. Happy Birthday is now an evil song that likes to get stuck in my head.
  3. If I have a song stuck in my head, I will walk to the beat of said song. Usually a nursery rhyme or children’s song, or something I heard on the radio. Never anything good.
  4. I hate working in silence. I have to have on music or the tv. I used to study, even in University, while watching tv. Something about letting part of my mind drift off and do something interesting…
  5. I want to write a book someday. I feel completely capable of the writing, just not yet the idea generation. I’ve always felt like I needed to "do more" first. After this week, maybe I’m getting there.
  6. I’ve always felt like being a teacher was not a fulfilling lifelong job, but I’ve come to realize that the passing on of knowledge is one of the most amazing gifts you can give, and it often gives more in return.

So, there I am. Now, whom to tag. I think I’ll tag Leora, Gloria, Grace, Boris, Christina and Jeremy. Sorry folks!
